Quick answer: what's the difference between an SL track and an L track?
An SL track massage chair guides its rollers along an S-shaped curve that follows the spine, then under the seat. An L track massage chair also runs down the back and under the seat. KOYO describes its SL track as an L track's coverage plus an S curve that follows the body more closely. Listed lengths overlap: OHCO lists 49 inches for the R6's L track, and Positive Posture lists 46 to 55 inches for its SL track chairs.

What is an SL track massage chair?
The track is the rail the massage rollers travel along. An SL track combines two shapes:
- S: the back section curves with the natural S shape of the spine, so the rollers stay close to the neck, upper back and lower back.
- L: the track bends at the bottom and continues under the seat, so the rollers can reach the glutes, and on some chairs the upper hamstrings.
Makers describe it in similar terms. Positive Posture says the Solara's SL-Track "traces the natural curves of your back" and reaches the neck, back, glutes and upper hamstrings. D.Core says the D.Core 2's SL track follows "the natural curve of your spine," from the neck down to the glutes. Positive Posture's DualTech Pro AI 4D uses a WSL-Track, which Positive Posture calls an improvement on the SL-Track.
What is an L track massage chair?
An L track massage chair runs its rollers down the back and then under the seat. The name describes the bend, not how far the rollers go.
Coverage on our L track chairs, as the makers describe it:
- OHCO R6: an L track from the neck down to the lumbar spine and glutes. OHCO says it is shaped to follow the body.
- D.Core Cirrus JP and Stratus JP: an L-Track from the neck to the hamstrings.
- Positive Posture Brio Sport: an L track from the back of the head down to the glutes and hamstrings.
So an L track does not mean a flat back. Where the rollers start and stop depends on the chair, not on the letter in the name.

Prices as of Oct 29, 2026. OHCO does not label MaxTrack as SL or L. Our product pages list an S track for the Panasonic MAF1 and no track type for the MAK1 or EP-MAL1, so those three are not in the table. Call ahead to confirm floor models.
Does track length matter more than track shape?
They answer different questions. Shape decides how closely the rollers follow your back. Length decides how far they travel, and the listed figures above run from 45.5 to 55 inches.
Three things to keep in mind when you compare lengths:
- Lengths overlap across types. The Brio Sport's L track (47 inches) is longer than the DualTech 4D's SL track (46 inches) and shorter than the CoreWave's (55 inches).
- Not every maker publishes one. Panasonic and D.Core describe coverage in words for these models instead.
- Track is only one spec. The mechanism (2D, 3D or 4D) decides how the rollers move along the track. Our 4D massage chair guide covers that side.
Does the track decide full body coverage?
Only in part. The track sets where the main rollers can travel: along the neck, back and, on SL and L tracks, under the seat. A full body session also depends on parts that sit off the track:
- Air cells in the arms, calves and feet work areas the back rollers don't reach, and cells at the shoulders and hips add pressure alongside the rollers.
- Foot rollers work the soles separately from the back mechanism.
- Heat may sit in the rollers, the seat or the calves, depending on the model.
So two chairs with similar track shapes can still feel very different from the hips down. When you compare chairs, look at the track for back and seat coverage, then check the air cell and foot sections on each product page.
How do I choose between an SL track and an L track?
Let your body decide, not the letter. During a test-sit, check:
- Where the rollers stop. Some tracks end at the glutes, others reach the hamstrings. Notice which you prefer.
- Lower-back contact. Feel whether the rollers stay in touch through the curve of your lower back, upright and reclined.
- Seat pressure. Rollers under the seat feel very different from person to person.
- Recline. Both track types appear on chairs with a zero gravity position, such as the KOYO 303TS (SL) and the OHCO R6 (L). Check whether the track rollers keep the same contact once the chair is fully reclined. Our zero gravity guide explains the position.
- Fit. Track coverage only helps if the chair fits you. Our guide to massage chair fit mistakes covers shoulders, calves and feet.

SL track and L track FAQ
Is an SL track better than an L track?
Neither is better for everyone. An SL track adds an S curve that follows the spine, while coverage and length vary by chair on both types. Sit in one of each and compare lower-back contact and where the rollers stop.
Which chairs at Massage Chairs & More use an L track?
The OHCO R6, the D.Core Cirrus JP and Stratus JP, and the Positive Posture Brio+ and Brio Sport.
How long is a massage chair track?
It depends on the chair. Among makers that publish a figure for the chairs we carry, lengths run from 45.5 inches on the KOYO 303TS to 55 inches on the Positive Posture CoreWave 4D Dual and DualTech Pro AI 4D.
What is a WSL track?
WSL-Track is Positive Posture's name for the track on the DualTech Pro AI 4D. Positive Posture describes it as an improvement on the SL-Track, and lists it at 55 inches.
Where can I compare SL and L track chairs in person?
Track shape is easiest to judge back to back. Sit in an SL track chair and an L track chair at the same session, run the same program on each, and pay attention to your lower back and seat.
